Tarrytown Reinvention

After living in a high-rise condo for several years, our client was in search of a house with outdoor space for her and her dogs. Knowing she would renovate and customize her new home to make it hers, she focused her search on finding the right lot in a quaint neighborhood, and purchased a home nestled on a large corner lot with stunning live oak trees.
During our original collaboration, our client discovered her personal style and design aesthetic. While the home she purchased was very well constructed, it lacked character and did not represent her style or personality. She wanted her home to reflect her love for color, prints and pattern and to elevate and enjoy the functional spaces of her home such as the mudroom, closets, laundry and pantry.
A curated gallery of portraits in the stairwell set the tone for the design with colorful, bold artwork inspired by a painting of her grandmother. While the lot had beautiful heritage trees, it lacked a cohesive landscape design and a fence for privacy and security to accommodate her dogs. Though she wanted an enclosure, she did not want a solid fence that closed her off from her neighbors, rather one that maintained a sense of connection to the community and disappeared into the landscape. A highly engineered fence was designed around the heritage trees and their root systems providing security, a sense of privacy, and tranquil outdoor spaces that are an extension of her home.
